Board Tables Decision...

The survey was requested at the behest of the community of and French Camp School parents by the Board of Trustees in support of an application for a waiver to the state of California with respects to health and safety concerns as raised by the MUSD Administrators.

Members of the French Camp Community have been waiting anxiously for the results of the survey, since it would determine whether the historical school would either be closed down and its students bussed to other school sites within the district or it would remain open at its present site.

Information and updates from District Administrators about the status of the report and its results have been lax adding to the frustration and consternation of community residents and school parents about the fate of their school.

This however is not the case when it comes to outside sources such as the Tidewater Developers, the Arnaiz Company who were informed by Sandra Dwyer about the recently released report.  Word has it that a copy of the report had even been made available to the developer.  French camp resident and PTA president Sondra Berchtold was informed via email of the results of the report in summary. Evidently the report sites three perhaps four issues pertaining to train derailment scenarios which raise some cause for concern but are countered with proposed methods of addressing the issues.  A couple of the issues are already addressed by the experienced and common sense approach to such a scenario by the French Camp Fire District.  A retaining wall is also suggested as an additional safety precaution for the students of French Camp School.

The District will wait to render its decision on French Camp School once the report is complete.  Meanwhile, the preliminary details seem to warrant some measure of relief from closure of the school by students, parents and residents of French Camp.
